Most of the top seeds in action of the 2013 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament advanced on Monday — that is, but one.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs, seeded 10th, upset the second-seeded Bokoshe 47-42 on Monday afternoon in Monroe.
The other top seeds avoided the upset-bug. At tournament-host Monroe, both its teams won. The third-seeded Eagles handled the Cameron Yellowjackets 48-27, while the fifth-seeded Lady Eagles got past the Panama Lady Razorbacks 50-45.
Other boys winners at the Monroe site were No. 6 Heavener and No. 7 Leflore. The Wolves tamed the Whitesboro Bulldogs 53-23, while the Savages got past the Hodgen Bulldogs 50-38.
No. 3 Poteau/Pansy Kidd Middle School Lady Raiders also were victorious at Monroe, beating the Pocola Lady Indians 36-20.
At Howe, the sub-site's host teams both won as the eighth-seeded Lions were able to get past the Pocola Indians 29-21, while the tournament's top-seeded Lady Lions were too much for Cameron in a 32-12 victory.
No. 2 Poteau/PKMS and No. 4 Talihina were top seeds who won Monday at the Howe High School gym, while fourth-seeded Heavener was another top seeds which advanced on the girls side.
The second-seeded Raiders defeated Arkoma 41-23, while a 23-0 run to begin the game for the fourth-seeded Golden Tigers got them going in a 39-5 victory over the Fanshawe Grizzlies.
The Lady Wolves also handled Fanshawe in a 34-5 win over the Lady Grizzlies.
