Thief allegedly wrecks stolen truck and flees

September 1, 2011

A Spiro man is facing felony
charges in the LeFlore
District Court after he allegedly
stole then wrecked a
truck then fled the scene.
Nicholas Guinn, 19, has
been formally charged with
larceny of an automobile and
leaving the scene of an accident
involving damage stemming
from an incident on
July 7.
According to the affidavit,
Guinn was walking on North
Ash St. in Spiro when he
spotted a black Chevy pickup
owned by Trudy McKinney
parked on Park Lane. Guinn
reportedly got into the truck,
started it and drove away as
McKinney’s grandson came
from the home. The grandson
was able to give a description
of the thief to LeFlore
County Deputy Duane Oliver
and a search for the truck
began.
Guinn allegedly drove the
truck toward Arkoma through
farm land and in the process
had a flat tire after crossing a
set of railroad tracks. The
report shows that he continued
to drive on the flat for
another three miles when he
ran through a gate and then
into an embankment and
became stuck.
According to the report,
after talking to witnesses who
reportedly saw Guinn driving
the stolen truck, deputies
went to a residence where
Guinn was supposed to be
staying and located him hiding
in a closet. Once they
removed him from the closet
and told him why they were
there, Guinn reportedly told
deputies that he needed a ride
and when he saw the truck
parked with the keys in it he
took it. He became nervous
when he noticed someone
was following him and that is
when he ran the truck through
the gate then got stuck. He
then walked back to his girlfriend's
home.
Guinn was arrested and
transported to the LeFlore
County Detention Center and
booked on charges of larceny
of an automobile and leaving
the scene of an accident. He
is currently free on bond
awaiting his next court
appearance. If convicted of
the crimes he could face up
to 20 years in the custody of
the Oklahoma Department of
Corrections and fines not to
exceed $500,000.
