Throw Back Thursday Wister High School style

May 22, 2013

TURNING BACK THE YEARS — Outdoor columnist George Midgley decided to go throw back on our readers today by showing a photograph from his Wister High School graduation in May 1987. I have seen here lately on Facebook the Throw Back Thursday, where someone will post an old picture from the past. Well, I am doing it Wister style this week.
While picking up something to drink at Wister Food Market, I bumped into my high school history teacher, Richard Baldwin. We had a nice visit, and it brought back several memories, which gave me the idea for my column this week.
About 15 minutes later while at the ball field getting set up for the sports banquet, my sixth-grade teacher, baseball and basketball coach and elementary principal, Jim Wann, and his wife and longtime school secretary, Nancy, pulled up.
We chatted about teaching and coaching, and how much everything has changed at Wister. I learned a lot from Mr. Wann, and my early years of playing for him was a big reason I am a coach and teacher today.
On Sunday at graduation, I ran into my high school principal, Snooks Bullard. We only got to chat for a few minutes, but once again the past memories came flooding into my mind.
So, I did a little digging and found an old high school graduation picture of me and a few fellow students that I thought I would share with everyone. These girls may kill me, but it will be worth it. If you recognize any of these ladies, please let them know they are part of my “Throw Back Thursday, Wister style.”
Have a great week!
