Thunder clinches top seed in Western Conference

April 17, 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Thunder clinched first place in the Western Conference with a 104-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Thunder has played well down the stretch, and overcame a two-game deficit to the San Antonio Spurs, which the Texas team enjoyed just a few weeks ago.
The Thunder will have home-court advantage throughout the playoffs in the Western Conference, and the only team that could have that advantage over OKC is Miami in the NBA Finals. The Thunder’s foe in the first round will be either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Utah Jazz — those two are still vying for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. Both teams are in action tonight, with a Lakers win at Houston putting the Kobe Bryant-less team as the Thunder's opening-round opponent.
However, if the Lakers lose, and the Jazz beat the Memphis Grizzlies, Utah will be OKC's opening-round opponent.
