Thunder even series with Spurs with Saturday night win

June 5, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY — The San Antonio Spurs 20-game winning streak is now a two-game losing streak. Kevin Durant made sure of that Saturday night, scoring 18 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter, including 16 points in a row at one point to ensure a 2-2 series and a Game 6 back at Chesapeake Energy Arena Wednesday night, as the Thunder won 109-103.
Serge Ibaka also brought his “A” game, scoring 26 points on a perfect 11-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
The Thunder played well for the second game in a row, taking must-win games at home and putting the pressure back on the Spurs to win at home in Game 5, which was slated to take place Monday night in San Antonio.
The story of this game was KD. I’ve watched many a Thunder game over the past few years, but never have I seen him take over a game like he did Saturday night against the Spurs. Holding onto a four-point lead, KD just took the team on his shoulders, and led them to the victory. He remained mostly quiet the first three-and-a-half quarters, but put in 16 straight over the last half of the fourth quarter, helping the Thunder to the six-point victory. KD took some credit, but also gave some to his teammates.
“We made a good effort to play together,” Durant said. “We had 27 assists. That comes from moving the ball and making the right plays. I think doing that in the first three quarters kind of opened it up for me in the fourth, and I was able to make some shots. But Russell (Westbrook) set great screens. James (Harden) made great passes. I was just trying to do my job and finish it.”
After the Thunder's win Monday night in San Antonio in Game 5, OKC can punch its ticket to the National Basketball Association Finals with a win tonight at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Game 6.
