OKLAHOMA CITY — At the end of the 2011-12 National Basketball Association season, I imagined that the Oklahoma City Thunder would come back this year and use the experience gained throughout the playoffs — especially in the NBA Finals — to make another serious run for the title. If the regular season is any indication of how this team is going to fare in the playoffs, this could be the year that OKC brings home its first-ever NBA title since the franchise moved from Seattle. As the team approaches the midpoint of the season, the Thunder currently has the best record in the NBA (31-8). A lot of games remain to be played, but to this point the team has met all expectations.
Facing a Denver Nuggets team riding a six-game winning streak Wednesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena, the Thunder just about ran the visiting team out of the building in the first half, scoring 67 points and grabbing a 20-point lead at halftime en route to a 117-97 victory that extended its current winning streak to five games.
