ARKOMA — The 2013 portion of the basketball season got off on the right foot for the Arkoma Mustangs Thursday night as they picked up a home victory over the Wister Wildcats by the score of 46-37.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-1 lead and never trailed. They enjoyed a 12-6 lead after one period.
However, the Wildcats stayed close as Adrian Gonzales’ steal and lay-up with 26 seconds left before halftime cut Wister’s deficit to 20-13 at halftime. However, that was as close as the ’Cats got.
Arkoma used an 18-7 third quarter, which was capped by Demetric Johnson’s 3-point basket with a second left, to put the Mustangs ahead 38-20 going into the final period.
Panama 57, Gans 45: In Panama, the Razorbacks won their second straight game, and first of the 2013 portion of the season.
Down 10-9 after a period, the Hogs outscored the Grizzlies 20-16 in the second quarter to take a 29-26 halftime lead.
After Gans regained the lead at 31-30 in the early stages of the third quarter, Panama outscored Gans 27-14 to get the comeback victory.
