LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages got their second straight win this week, and, in turn, spoiled the season opener for the Bokoshe Tigers as they posted a 61-20 win Thursday night at the Leflore Gym.
The Savages, who entered the game after Tuesday night's upset of Class B's sixth-ranked Kinta Eagles, jumped out to a 24-5 lead after one period to take control of the game.
Red Oak 50, Whitesboro 41: In Red Oak, the Bulldogs were down four points at 45-41 with 25 seconds left with a chance to cut the lead to a basket, but their shot missed. Then, the Eagles were able to make their free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
The ’Dogs led 13-12 at halftime, but the Eagles knotted the game at 19-all at halftime. A sluggish start to the third quarter by Whitesboro was all Red Oak needed to get enough of a lead to keep the Bulldogs at bay. The Eagles led 33-30 going into the final period.
