KINGSTON — The Talihina Lady Golden Tigers got their first win of the season Thursday afternoon, beating the Coalgate Lady Wildcats 66-51 in the opening round of the Kingston New Year's Classic.
The Lady Golden Tigers jumped out to a 24-1 lead after a period to take control of the game.
Talihina played Tishomingo in the semifinals Friday afternoon, with a win putting the Lady Golden Tigers into Saturday night's title game at 6:30 p.m. A loss will drop them into Saturday afternoon's third-place game at 3:30 p.m.
Leflore 30, Midway 20: At Arkansas River Shootout in Webbers Falls, the Lady Savages jumped out to a 5-2 lead and never lost the advantage, but it took a 13-4 final period to seal the deal.
Leflore met Oaks in the semifinals Friday afternoon with the winner playing for the title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The loser will play for third place at 3:40 p.m. Saturday.
Quinton 57, Pocola 33: In Quinton, the Lady Savages jumped out to a 14-5 lead after a period en route to a 30-12 halftime advantage.
The Lady Indians opened the second half with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 30-22, but that was as close as they got.
Editor's Note: Panama's game at McCurtain did not take place because McCurtain's gym did not have water. The game has been tentatively rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. next Friday.
