On Friday December 30, 2011, Poteau Mayor Jeff Shockley announced that an agreement had been reached and finalized with a Chinese firm to reopen the Tiger Trucks facility (now Tiger International) in the Poteau Industrial Park.
Tiger Trucks originally opened its doors in Poteau July 31, 2008, while under the ownership of a different Chinese firm. Which offered jobs to approximately 300 workers, and was the first U.S. play to produce Chinese heritage vehicles. The Poteau plant was designed to manufacture 7,500 vehicles per year.
On December 18, 2010, Chapter 11 bankruptcy was filed against Tiger Trucks on behalf of two of its creditors. The City of Poteau immediately began looking for a business to fill the void left by Tiger Trucks.
By October of 2011, Mayor Shockley and the Poteau City Counsil had two companies that were interested in occupying the facility.
Now doing business as Tiger International, the Tiger Trucks facility will re-open January 3, 2012.
