At least for Day 1 of the 2011 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament Monday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, the seeding pretty much held to form.
The top four seeds — Poteau, Spiro, Panama and Heavener — all won their openers. The Lady Pirates were too much for the Howe Lady Lions, winning 15-0 as Brenna Vise pitched a perfect three-inning game. The other top-seed games were a little closer.
The Lady Razorbacks got a no-hitter from Taylor Eaves as they blanked the Wister Lady Wildcats 2-0.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs had to hold off a late rally by the Pocola Lady Indians to win 4-3 and the Lady Wolves defeated the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers 6-3.
Tuesday night's championship semifinals had Poteau meeting Heavener and Spiro playing Panama. The two winners will play at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the winner's-bracket final.
In Monday night's opening-round games, seeding also held true.
No. 5 Talihina defeated No. 12 Leflore 9-1, No. 6 Wister beat No. 11 Bokoshe 12-0, No. 7 Pocola handled No. 10 Whitesboro 13-3 and No. 8 Howe blanked No. 9 Arkoma 12-0.
Tuesday's games saw six elimination games. In the first set of elimination games, Wister played Arkoma, Pocola faced Leflore, Howe battled Bokoshe and Talihina played Whitesboro.
The other two elimination games saw the Wister-Arkoma winner face the Pocola-Leflore winner, while the Howe-Bokoshe victor played the Talihina-Whitesboro.
The Wister-Arkoma-Pocola-Leflore survivor will play the Poteau-Heavener loser at 6 p.m. tonight, while the Spiro-Panama loser will face the survivor of the quartet of Howe-Bokoshe-Talihina-Whitesboro, also at 6 p.m. tonight.
The two 6 p.m. game winners will then play at 7:30 p.m. tonight for the right to get to the loser's-bracket final on Thursday night.
