OKLAHOMA CITY — Growing up a Los Angeles Lakers fan, Thursday night’s game was kind of hard to watch. In one way, I couldn’t lose because I liked both teams. But then either way one of my teams was going to lose.
I first remember watching the Lakers play in the 1980 NBA Finals against the Philadelphia 76ers. Magic Johnson played all five positions on the floor that game as the Lakers pulled out the Game 6 victory, and secured the NBA Championship that year.
I’ve been a Lakers fan ever since. No matter if I agreed with what management did or how the players acted when on/off the court, I’ve always been a die-hard Lakers fan.
This year, with the departure of Coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers are struggling to remain in the top tier of the Western Conference, while the up-and-coming Oklahoma City Thunder are just getting better with experience. And that’s exactly what I saw Thursday night as Oklahoma City won fairly easy with a 100-85 victory at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
