Road Conditions Update – December 10, 2012 – 10:30 a.m.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is cautioning drivers of winter weather conditions in the south central part of our state. Slick spots are reported along the I-35 corridor through McClain, Garvin, Murray and Carter counties. Slick spots continue in the southern portion of Pottowatomie County while slick and hazardous conditions are reported on highways throughout Pontotoc County.

During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists are asked to:
· Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
· Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
· Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.

While ODOT crews report that the sunshine is helping the conditions, they warn drivers to use caution on all roadways as temperatures are expected to remain low. Continue to be alert for possible slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.
