PARK HILL — The Poteau Pirates did not get the start to the 2012-13 season they had hoped for as they lost 57-42 to Class 3A's sixth-ranked Keys (Park Hill) Cougars in the opening round of the Keys Cougars Invitational.
The Pirates will play the Fort Gibson junior varsity at 8:45 p.m. Friday with a win putting them into the consolation championship game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The Poteau-Fort Gibson JV loser will play for seventh place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Pocola 64, Quinton 39: In Pocola, the Indians trailed 26-23 at halftime, but they outscored the Savages 23-8 in the third quarter to take a 46-34 lead into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Pocola outscored Quinton 18-5.
Panama 64, Keota 63: In Keota, the Razorbacks got their first win of the season, and used a fourth-quarter rally to do so.
Down 51-45 in the early stages of the final period, Panama outscored Keota 19-12 — with the run capped by a pair of Jason Lovell free throws with six seconds left — to cap the comeback.
Spiro 56, Eufaula 32: In Eufaula, the Bulldogs (1-0) won their opener, but it didn't come easy until late. Spiro trailed 16-13 after a period, but outscored Eufaula 11-6 in the second period to take a 24-22 lead at halftime.
Leading 33-30 after three periods, the ’Dogs put the game away by outscoring the Ironheads 23-2 in the final quarter to win going away.
