LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages got not only their first win of the 2012-13 season, but new coach Daniel Caldwell his first win with his new team Tuesday night as the Savages routed the Panola Bearcats 68-36 in their home opener at the Leflore Gym.
The Savages jumped out to a 14-0 lead after a period en route to a 34-5 halftime advantage.
Whitesboro 63, Smithville 57: In Smithville, the Bulldogs remained undefeated for new coach Billy Karr. The ’Dogs doubled up the Braves 20-10 in the first quarter, but the hosts cut the deficit to 29-25 at halftime.
Smithville continued to cut into the Whitesboro lead, trimming the deficit to 48-45 going into the final period.
However, the Bulldogs outscored the Braves 15-12 to hold on for the win.
McCurtain 60, Wister 57: In McCurtain, the Bulldogs trailed 34-25 at halftime, but outscored the Wildcats 23-13 in the third period to take a 48-47 lead into the fourth quarter — in which McCurtain outscored Wister 12-10 to seal the deal.
