Tuesday's High School Girls Basketball Roundup

December 1, 2011

VAN BUREN, Ark. — A combination of turnovers and a poor-shooting game spelled doom for the Poteau Lady Pirates in their season opener Tuesday afternoon in the Citizens Bank Classic as they lost 59-35 to Shiloh Christian in the opening round.
The Lady Pirates (0-1) got a bye into Saturday afternoon's consolation championship.
Bokoshe 79, Kinta 36: In Kinta, one night after a struggling-but-winning performance at Cameron, the Lady Tigers (3-0) were in rare form Tuesday night. Bokoshe jumped out to a 24-9 lead after one period and never looked back.
Talihina 51, Antlers 39: In Antlers, the Lady Golden Tigers (1-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 30-15 lead with three minutes left before halftime.
The Lady Bearcats went on a 10-0 run from the end of the first half to the start of the second half to cut the deficit to 30-25, which ended up being as close as they got.
With five minutes left to play, Talihina had a 41-35 lead, but then ended the game with a 10-4 run to seal the deal.
Wister 56, McCurtain 31: In McCurtain, the Lady Wildcats (3-3) broke a 10-10 tie after one quarter with a 19-8 second period to take a 29-18 lead at halftime. Then, the Lady ’Cats outscored the Lady Bulldogs 27-13 in the second half.
Gans 52, Arkoma 47: In Arkoma, the Lady Grizzlies (1-0) doubled up the Lady Mustangs (0-1) in the opening period by a score of 16-8 and never lost the lead.
Stigler 40, Pocola 29: In Stigler, the Lady Indians (0-1) had a 19-17 lead early into the third quarter, but the Lady Panthers (1-0), coached by former Heavener Girls Coach Jeff Walker, outscored them 23-10 the rest of the way to get the come-from-behind win — thanks in part to free-throw shooting as Stigler was 16-of-29 from the line, compared to only three attempts for Pocola.
