Tulsa football team struggles early, but ends up winning for third straight time

September 25, 2012

TULSA — For most of the first half — even into the third quarter — of Saturday night's game between the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium, it didn't look to good for the home team.
Tulsa quarterback Cody Green had two interceptions returned for touchdowns by the Bulldogs, who led 20-7 after one quarter and had a 26-17 advantage after the second pick-six with 12:33 left in the third quarter.
However, the mark of a good team is to find ways to win, and the Golden Hurricane did just that as they ended up with a 27-26 victory.
“Wow,” said Bill Blankenship, a Spiro native and Tulsa's coach. “You know, the best thing I can tell you is that I'm just so proud of our guys for not giving in. It was an absolute fabulous defensive effort. We made it so hard for them with how we played offensively — in the first half, especially.”
