Tulsa let one get away Saturday against Arkansas

November 5, 2012

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It's always frustrating on a losing team to know that it had a chance to win that respective contest. Just as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa failed to capitalize on getting five more points — missing a field goal and an extra point, while having a second PAT blocked by Arkansas defender DeQuinta Jones) — and the end result was a 19-15 loss to the Razorbacks, who got to make it a happy homecoming for the 64, 451 in attendance on Saturday at Frank Broyles Field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
“We thought we had it, so it will sit bad in our stomachs for a while,” said Cody Green, Tulsa quarterback who was 22-of-37 passing for 222 yards — but fumbled the ball with 41 seconds left to play in the game (with the ball recovered by Arkansas defender Bryan Jones to seal the deal for the Hogs (4-5). “We wanted it bad, but we just we have to live with it. It hurts worse because we got down there into the red zone, and we didn't get points. We have to put points on the board when we get down there.”
“This one sticks in your gut because I really feel like we should have won,” said Bill Blankenship, Tulsa's coach and Spiro native. “These guys came over here and played extremely well. I absolutely love my team, and the way they competed. I think we know what level we can play at. It just makes me sick that we didn't get the scores."
