Turkey hunting, baseball, archery make for a full week

April 4, 2013

JACOB’S GOBBLER — Jacob Armstrong, 14, killed this bird on his birthday last weekend with his new Double Cross “glass” call. Last weekend was the statewide youth turkey hunt. Photo by Dean Armstrong

My cousin, Jason Sampson, will be my guide and hunting partner for the weekend. We are going to be hunting on Hickory Creek Wildlife Management Area and some private land.

Last weekend was the youth season in many counties, and my buddy, Dean Armstrong, took his son, Jacob, on a hunt. The day was special because it was Jacob’s 14th birthday.
Dean bought a Double Cross call from Stephen Billy of Poteau, and used it to call in a gobbler for Jacob to kill for his birthday bird.
I will be using my Double Cross call to try and cross up an ol’ Rio Grande bird this weekend. If you would like your own Double Cross call, get with me or Stephen Billy — and get ready for turkey season today.
Have a great week!
