For 4.5 innings, the loser’s-bracket semifinal between the Tushka Tigers and the Weatherford Red was up for grabs.
But a three-run fifth inning by the Tigers broke open a close game as Tushka eliminated Weatherford by a score of 6-2 Friday night in the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Tushka (36-19) broke the scoreless tie on an RBI single by Dillon Mansell and a Weatherford error for a 2-0 lead after an inning.
An RBI single by Ridge Stephens in the second inning score Cole Broughton to make it 3-0 after two innings.
It only took one swing of the bat for the Red (ending the season at 42-8) to get back into the game. A two-out, two-run home run by Spencer Ard in the third inning cut the deficit to 3-2 after three innings.
