UPDATED: Thursday's rain plays havoc with postseason action

September 27, 2012

Mother Nature was a big winner on softball diamonds where LeFlore County fast-pitch teams were competing in postseason contests.
The Poteau Lady Pirates were tied with the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs at 0-0 with one out in the top of the second inning in the Class 4A District Tournament in Poteau when the rains came. The game will resume at that point at 3 p.m. Friday. Then, Game 2 will follow at about 4:30 p.m. If both teams split, a third game will be needed, but it is not known when that game will take place since it is football night on Friday.
At the Class 2A Regional Tournament in Tushka, the Wister Lady Wildcats lost 4-0 to Colbert, but Game 2 between host Tuskha and Latta got suspended by rain in the third inning. The game will resume at noon Friday, with the loser meeting Wister at 2 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.
Cameron's girls suffered two losses in the Class A Regional Tournament in Keota, losing to 16-1 to Welch and 6-3 Kiefer.
In the Class 2A Regional Tournament in Ketchum, the defending state champion Panama Lady Razorbacks defeated host Ketchum 11-0 and was slated to play at 6 p.m. Thursday for the right to get to Friday afternoon's 2 p.m. title game.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs were able to play their games at the Class 3A Regional Tournament in Westville, but no results were available at press time.
The Wister Wildcats baseball team won its Class A Regional Tournament opener by hanging on to down host Tushka 5-4. However, right afterward, rain washed out the rest of the opening day's action. So, the Wildcats will have to wait until 1 p.m. Friday to play for the regional title. They will play Rattan for a shot to make state for the sixth straight season dating back to the 2010 spring season.
Look for more details on the postseason action on the diamond in Saturday's edition.
