The nursing staff at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center   are using the new Point of Care Patient Documentation System.

Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center recently expanded their existing CPSI Healthcare Infor-mation System to include Point of Care Patient Documentation. With the CPSI System, the hospital integrates functional departments to organize patient data in a way that achieves greater efficiencies in operations as well as provides a higher level of patient care to the community.
The new Point of Care application will expand upon the data currently captured by the hospital allowing Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center to realize a more complete electronic patient record and increased patient safety.
With Point of Care, the capture of patient data will happen literally at a patient’s bedside, or wherever care is provided.  Mobile care stations that feature wireless network communications will accompany hospital caregivers as they make their rounds. The patient information gathered will become a permanent part of the patient’s electronic medical record.
Through the integration of the CPSI System, charted information will be immediately and securely available to caregivers throughout the hospital and in physician offices.
Electronic charting will allow caregivers to spend less time with paperwork and more time providing care. Additionally, the elimination of hand written notes will in turn eliminate the potential for errors due to misinterpretation.
“Weekly in the national news we hear about patient deaths from medication errors, the addition of our medication verification system will improve our effort to provide safe patient care and help decrease the chance of these mistakes” said Melinda Davis, CNO.
Point of Care is, however, more than just a means to enter patient data.  The system will also provide secure, real-time access to the patient’s complete electronic record.  Information historically maintained in paper records, such as laboratory results, medical records transcriptions, and pharmacy profiles, will all be available electronically.  With complete patient information on-line and at their fingertips, Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center’s staff will have quicker access to the information they need to make care decisions.
“Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center’s continued commitment to investing in advanced technologies reflects our mission to provide high quality healthcare services as the provider of choice for Eastern Oklahoma,” stated Terry Buckner, CEO.
Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission on accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.  The hospital is licensed to operate 82 acute care beds and has an average daily census of 28 patients.
The LeFlore County Commissioners, Freddie Cox, Lance Smith and Carroll Rogers appoint the Board of Trustees to the Hospital Authority.
Members of the Board of Trustees are G.R. (Rod) Fulsom, Chairman, Paige;  Jim Scarbrough, Treasurer, Heavener;  Aud Balentine, Secretary, Wister;  Jim Linville, Member, Spiro;   Carrel Vaughn, Member, Wister; Wayne Hoffman, Member, Cameron; and Mary Helen Lucas, Member, Poteau. Mr. Dean Warren serves as legal counsel to the board of Trustees.
