Tuesday was a special election for a School Bond Issue for Talihina, Heavener and Panama.
For Heavener schools the $1.4 million bond to build six classrooms. Res-ults:Yes: 165 (53.0 percent); No: 146 (47.0 percent). For Panama schools, the $1.7 million bond to build a fifth and sixth grade center to repair the school’s roof and build two classrooms to expand the early childhood campus failed with 115 voters (33.0 percent) going to the polls and voting yes, while 232 (67.0 percent) voters brought the propostition to a halt. For Talihina getting new sidewalks will have to come another way with 42 (26.75 percent) and 115 (73.25 percent) against the proposition. Heavener received 53.05 percent of the voters voted yes to the propostion or 165 votes to 46.95 percent of the district voting no at 146 votes. A Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant has been applied for and will cover 80 percent of the cost, but it is up to Talihina to raise the remaining 20 percent. |
