Resulting in the first alleged murder investigation of 2009 in LeFlore County, a New Year’s Eve party turned deadly.
According to an affidavit filed January 1 at the LeFlore County Courthouse,  Mikal Morphis received stab wounds in the chest on December 31 and was taken to Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Another victim of the stabbing was Dennis Goforth who received two lacerations to his liver from stab wounds in his torso. He was life-flighted to Saint Francis in Tulsa.
According to the affidavit, Mikal Morphis was having a New Year’s Eve party at his residence when, according to witnesses at  the party, Nathan Beauchamp who was at the party was told to leave and did.
The affidavit further states that a  juvenile male stated that his friend, Nathan Beauchamp, contacted him and told him he had been jumped by three guys at the party and wanted him to pick him up and take him back to the party.
The juvenile and his girlfriend went to get Nathan at his residence in Poteau and picked up his brother, Robbin, as well.
The affidavit states that Nathan’s mother, sister and a friend drove in one vehicle while the juvenile witness, his girlfriend and Nathan, rode in the girlfriend’s vehicle.
The juvenile female witness told investigators that as she pulled up on the road a bunch of people from the party approached the vehicle. Her boyfriend, along with Nathan and his brother, Robbin, got out of the vehicle and a verbal argument ensued which led to a physical altercation.
Two of the boys returned back to the vehicle in which Nathan stated that his brother stabbed someone. Robbin tried to get back into the vehicle but the female refused to let him enter because she noticed that he was covered in blood. Robbin then began walking off on foot.
Nathan Beauchamp, told police that when Robbin attempted to get back in the car, he stated, “I stabbed ‘em.”
In a photographic line-up shown to the female witness driving, she identified Robbin Beauchamp as the individual that she transported in her vehicle to the Morphis residence and she knew he was Nathan Beauchamp’s brother.
Dennis Goforth stated that during the party they had asked some guy to leave and the guy returned back with his mother and his buddies. Goforth also stated that he tried to pull the guy away from Morphis and that the guy turned and started stabbing him.
Beauchamp has been charged with murder in the first degree and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Robbin Beauchamp has fled the scene and his whereabouts are unknown at this time. If anyone has any information please contact the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department at 918 647-2317.
