Wednesday afternoon an out of control grass fire came dangerously close to Janis Simpson's home in Monore. The Monroe Fire Department was called to the scene, but the family did not sit back and wait for the fire to reach their home. They got buckets and a water hose and tried to douse the fire and keep the yard wet so it wouldn't progress to the house or the wooded area next to it. They succeeded in their mission to stop the fire. There were no injuries to anyone in the family or damage to their home.
