Leadership LeFlore County 2009 completed the eight-session course study with a graduation on March 6 at the Kerr Conference. Eleven students successfully completed the course study this year. The final trip each year is a tour of the Oklahoma State Capitol, where the group meets with Senator Kenneth Corn and Representative Neil Brannon. This year the group arrived early in the morning and began the day with a meeting with Senator Corn in his office, continuing later that morning with a brief meeting with Representative Brannon. Representative Brannon then introduced the Leadership LeFlore County group on the Floor of the House of Representative. The group then finished with a tour on the House Floor and a photo opportunity. LLC was treated to lunch at the Faculty House compliments of Rural Enterprises, Inc. Tom Seth Smith, President and CEO of REI, spoke briefly about the different programs offered for rural development in Oklahoma. The group then continued on to a briefing at REI's business office. The final destination of the day was the State Chamber office and a short meeting. Dana Fowble, CCM, arranged for a briefing and a short PowerPoint presentation concerning the different Legislative issues involving the State Chamber. Karen Wages, Executive Director of the Poteau Chamber of Commerce, said, "This year's leadership group was exceptional." She would also like to encourage those wanting to take leadership responsibilities in this area to join the next Leadership Class of 2010. |
