Law enforcement officials continue to follow leads in the violent crime allegedly committed in the early morning hours Thursday at the Long Branch Saloon south of Poteau. LeFlore County Sheriff Bruce Curnutt and Undersheriff Donnie Edwards were called to the bar at noon on Thursday and were met by the employee that had called the sheriff's office.
She told Curnutt and Edwards that she had come to the bar to find the owner, Joe Neff, who had last been seen at the bar. Instead of Neff, she found a lot of blood and Neff's cowboy hat inside the bar. Neff has not been found and is presumed dead. The sheriff's office and agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation have been conducting their investigation and searching for the body at the crime scene and the area surrounding the bar. A search warrant was exercised Friday afternoon at Neff's home on Country Club Lane in Poteau. A family member asked for a deputy Friday afternoon to come to Neff's home because they discovered the safe had been left open and knew that to be unusual. "We got a search warrant so that we could search the entire house and property," Curnutt said. "We're still conducting interviews," the sheriff added. "And we are still searching for the body." In addition, officials are also looking for an older model Toyota or Nissan red pickup thought to be in connection with the crime. At press time no further information was being released. |
