By Laura Young, Managing Editor The body of Joe Neff was discovered by two fishermen Sunday evening. According to LeFlore County Sheriff Bruce Curnutt, the body was recovered from a strip pit west of Pocola at approximately 8 p.m. May 17. "The body was sent to the medical examiner in Oklahoma City to gather further evidence and to find out the cause of death," Curnutt said. Neff,. the owner of Long Branch Saloon located south of Poteau, had been missing since May 13 after his girlfriend went to the bar and found signs of a violent crime.
