Insurance verification system in place
Thursday, 09 July 2009
(AP) — Oklahoma's new electronic verification system for vehicle insurance is now online and fully operational. Oklahoma Tax Commission spokeswoman Paula Ross says validating insurance electronically gives immediate confirmation that a driver has a valid policy.

The system is designed to help law enforcement keep uninsured motorists off Oklahoma roads. It will be used by the Department of Public Safety, tag agents and the Tax Commission.  Motorists still will need to present an insurance verification card when renewing their vehicle registrations.

Information on the card will be entered into an online database which is then matched up to verify the policy is valid and current.  Ross says if the information is not current or cannot be confirmed in the database, then registration will not be issued.
