District Attorney Jeff Smith presents Rick Couri a plaque for 35 years of service. The LeFlore County Youth Services counselors, staff and board members gathered July 15 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the organization. The Community State Bank provided lunch to show their appreciation for all that the service does for LeFlore and Haskell County. Wednesday, July 15, LeFlore County Youth Services (LCYS) celebrated 35 years of service. During that time, LCYS has served youth and their families in both LeFlore and Haskell counties.
Some of the services LCYS has provided over the years include: Comprehensive At-Risk Services; First Time Offender Program Services; and Medicaid services, with all services funded through state contracts. Other programs that are not funded by any agency or grant include: Missing Children’s; Adopt-An-Angel Program and Summer Recreational Program. LCYS, which started out as an agency with only six employees, has grown to include 16 employees over the past 35 years while the shelter has had 37,450 days of service and 5,679 kids come through with an average stay of six days. Beginning in 1996, counseling services have been provided to 3,660 youth. LCYS has an average of 282 youth seek counseling services each year. LCYS’ future plans include hopes of expanding the agency. To that end, the non-profit organization has been working on conjuring up building plans to build a facility that will house the shelter and office under one roof. LCYS will rely on grants and funding for its future expansion and development. Contact LCYS at (918) 647-4196 if you have any questions or want to help.
