Spiro receives $25,000 grant |

State Sen. Kenneth Corn and Rep. Neil Brannon are pleased to announce that Spiro has been awarded $25,000 in Capital Improvement Planning (CIP) Grants to assist with community development.
"This grant will provide wonderful opportunities for this community to grow and be more successful in the future," said Corn. "Capital Improvement Planning is an effective way for communities to build civic capacity, address crisis management, and plan and prioritize infrastructure improvements."
The purpose of the Capital Improvement Plan-ning awards is to provide funding for rural communities to undertake long-term planning activities. By utilizing its Substate Planning District, the community conducts a comprehensive inventory of all its governmentally-owned assets and develops a five year capital improvement plan. Additionally, the program involves the digitized mapping of these assets on a Geographic Information System. This process builds local leadership capacity by organizing and presenting information in a simple and useful graphic format. This information can enhance decision-making by leading a community through the CIP process.
Brannon noted that around 2,200 local residents will benefit from the funding.
"Spiro will greatly benefit from this funding," said Brannon, D-Arkoma. "CIP grants allow rural communities to plan for successful economic development which helps improve the quality of living for all local residents."
