The Pocola Middle School and High School students participated in a “Commit to Graduate” assembly recently at their school.
The students viewed President Obama’s address to American students and then heard a representative from the Josten’s Company, Mr. Robert McCabe. McCabe discussed “The Top 10 Reasons to Make a Commitment to Graduate.” He related some personal stories to the students and discussed some facts about students who graduate from high school. The students learned that three in every ten students will not graduate and that high school dropouts are twice as likely as high school graduates to slip into poverty. After McCabe spoke, he distributed wristbands with “Commitment to Graduate” imprinted on them. Students also received an information sheet listing reasons to graduate and encouraging them to focus on their goals. The Pocola High School seniors were then presented with a large banner. The seniors signed the banner, which is a commitment to graduate from high school. The banner will hang in the high school lobby. Each year the senior class will be asked to make the same commitment to graduate and will receive a banner. |
