Deanna and Bob Reed, The Poteau Daily News and The District Attorney's Office sponsored a self defense seminar at Carl Albert State College recently.
The women's seminar was mandatory for all female residents living in the dorms but was also open to all women faculty and students who attend CASC. Mark Gordon, lead instructor for Homeland Security Solutions Inc., was the keynote speaker giving pointers about when and how to fight off an attacker. Other Carl Albert faculty members spoke about the resources available as well as counseling and how to report attacks. The male dorm residents were required to attend a similar seminar at the same time. The men were educated on how to take no for an answer and how to be supportive if they encounter a relationship with a girl who has previously been raped or abused. The educational seminars were provided with the hope that violence and sexual abuse will decrease or disappear from the CASC campus this year. |
