LCYS Board President Jeff Smith (background) watches as his wife, Sherry, finishes her 5K walk. Smith had already finished. LeFlore County Youth Services, Inc., held its first 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 24 at Long Lake Resort in Poteau. Twenty-three people in two divisions braved the cool temperatures for the event and enjoyed the beautiful scenery as they ran or walked on the surfaced trail.
Winners in the youth division (13 and under) were: First place, Sarah Stiltner (28:39); second place, Tyler Corbit (29:39); third place, Victoria Gunlock (31:59). Winners in the adult division were: First place, Jedd Kirby (21:33); second place, Melissa Tener (26:02); third place, Pearl Jackson (27:50). All participants received a participation ribbon with their finishing time written on the ribbon. LCYS thanks Long Lake Resort for the use of their facility and the board members who assisted and/or walked. Board members participating were Jeff Smith, board president; Jason Graves, vice president; Kelly Ford, treasurer: Rene Brooks, secretary; and Sheryl Maggard. LCYS staff aiding in the project were Richard F. Couri, executive director; B.J. Barnes, assistant director; Jenni Maggard, administrative assistant; None Ivey, counselor; and Heather Hammons, counselor. Plans are underway for next year's event to make it even bigger and better. The next major event for LeFlore County Youth Services is the annual Adopt-An-Angel Drive. The project relies entirely on donations from the public and provides for less fortunate children in LeFlorre County to have Christmas gifts. Donations are welcome and may be made by contacting Jenni Maggard at 918-647-4196. |
