Students attending Carl Albert State College will have great access to scholarships thanks to a $5,000 donation from the Walton Family Foundation.
Grace Cottage was also presented with a $5,000 donation from the Walton
Family Foundation at their facility in Poteau.

Ted Sheets/Arvest Community Bank President, Rodney Shepard/Sales Manager and Marcia Davis/Regional Manager of Arvest Bank represented the foundation and presented the check to Dr. Brandon Webb, President of CASC, and Garry Ivey, CEO of the Development Foundation and
“We are pleased to present this donation on behalf of the Walton Family Foundation to support Carl Albert’s efforts to provide scholarships for residential students as these funds will be used for their Leadership Scholarship Program,” said Sheets.
The funds will be used for the Leader Scholarship Program. The Leader Program is an endowed scholarship program that provides a $700 scholarship to residential students who exhibit leadership qualities and academic excellence.
The Walton Family Foundation became one of the partners in this program in 2004 with a $5,000 contribution.  Contributions to the Leader Program are pooled to create the endowment to fund the scholarships.  Last year 71 scholarships were provided.
Webb said, "The Walton Family Foundation is doing a wonderful job of providing scholarships to attract students with high academic abilities to CASC.  These scholarships not only ease the financial burden of attending college but provide leadership opportunities needed for the future."
Sheets and Davis were joined by Mike Beshers/Branch Manager and Danielle Rogers/Consumer Loan Manager of Arvest Bank as they presented the check to Grace Cottage.
“We are pleased to present this donation on behalf of the Walton Family Foun-dation to support Grace Cottage’s efforts to provide a place of refuge and hope to hurting women and their unborn children. This organization is so important to our community and I’m so proud that we are able to give this to them,” stated Sheets.
The funds will be used for operational expenses, primarily for direct care staff salaries.
Nancy Pitman, Executive
Director, stated, "This donation is so timely as our funds our down this year and we literally operate on a shoestring budget. The funds will help us live out my dream as well as the board's to keep Grace Cottage operating and one day open a second home."
“These donations are two of many we have made throughout the area.  It demonstrates the foundation’s ongoing commitment to education and to the region," stated Sheets.
