Creating a new mission and vision statement for the Boys and Girls Club of LeFlore County was just one of the things that the board members discussed at the meeting held on Tuesday.
Ryan Brand Chief Professional Officer reported that the Pocola School Board approved creating a partnership with BGCLC. Creating a Positive Place for kids is now going to be stretch further in the county. This week the Poteau site is gearing up for the Veterans Parade. Club members wishing to participate in the program need to make sure and meet at Carl Albert State College at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. It is sure to be a fun time and a great way to remember Veterans. We are also going to be getting our float ready for the Christmas parade, so donations are greatly appreciated. We need candy, lights, and anything that will go along with our 101 Dalmatian theme. Remember Parent Teacher Conference so no school on Friday for Poteau. The BGCLC hopes that parents of club members will see an improvement in grades and social skills since the beginning of school. We want your comments and suggestions, Let us what we how we are doing. YES mentoring is going well, adding a new mentor this week. YES is a school based mentoring program serving fourth through eighth grade students. All mentoring sessions are held during regular school and Boys and Girls Club hours at Pansy Kidd Middle School and Poteau Upper Elementary School. A mentor is a special volunteer who is committed to spending the time and energy to serve as a positive guide and role model to students. Mentors care about the youth of today and quality education. We truly have a great group of mentors who do care about today’s youth. If you are interested in becoming a mentor contact the office at 918 647-7136 or 918 647-8298. Remember together we can create a Positive Place for Kids. |
