Jackie Tackett, of Bokoshe, has been charged with 103 counts of illegal possession of deer antlers.
Among the illegal antlers investigators found were those belonging to "The BP Buck" which was allegedly poached near Wilburton. According to court documents filed in the LeFlore County Court Clerks Office, on Nov. 18, Drug Task Force Agents, Oklahoma Game Wardens and Poteau Police Officers executed a search warrant on Tackett's property. Poteau Officer Jim Craig found 103 sets of whitetail deer antlers, one set of elk antlers and one mounted owl, all believed to be taken illegally. LeFlore County Courthouse officials estimate this is possibly the largest number of illegal antler possessions filed in LeFlore County. All the illegal antlers were located together in the attic of the house with the exception of the BP Buck antlers which were found in a hidden compartment in a bedroom closet. Tackett was not home at the time officers searched the residence. He reportedly arrived approximately an hour later. The court document states that Tackett said all the wildlife in the attic, along with the BP Buck, belonged to Kenneth Nixon. He went on to say that Nixon told him he had shot the deer and wanted him to keep the antlers for him. Tackett admitted that he did not have a receipt or any proof of ownership on any of the deer antlers, elk or the owl. |
