Huge pieces of equipment have moved in on the Wister school campus as the construction of the new middle school begins. The new building will be located between the existing high school and the library. Story continued below.
By Gayleen Draper, News Reporter - Wister Public Schools are making plans and looking to the future. Construction has begun on a 7,500 square foot building which will be used for classroom space for grades fifth through eighth. The building project was made possible by the voters of the district when they passed the bond issue by 79.5 percent.According to Jerry Carpenter, school superintendent, the new building will become a true "middle school." He stated that students in grades 7 and 8 will be moved out of the high school and into the middle school. The addition will be located between the high school and the library and will house approximately six new classrooms along with large restroom facilities for the students. Students and teachers should be able to move into the new building for the 2008-2009 school year."We are very thankful that we have a community that supports the local school system and helps us to realize the vision to continue growing,” Carpenter stated. “Our loyal patrons have voted for the last three bond issues with an 80 percent yes vote. “That means that the money our school has received has helped pay for one third of the improvements made at a cost of three million dollars for improvements over the last 10 years,” the superintendent continued. “This has supplied our students with good facilities that maintain the high academic standards we have at Wister Schools." |
