Fabulous Fourth!

PDN photos by David Deaton

Image

They came to town by the hundreds! People from all around LeFlore County made the trip to downtown Poteau for the Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Celebration. There were rides, foods, face painting and water slides. The day ended with the giant fireworks display at dusk. Children of all ages enjoyed the day. Above, Killion Barnes is getting a little shut-eye on B.J. Barnes’ shoulder after having enjoyed the full day to get ready for the fireworks.

This little cutie enjoyed the ride her dad gave her on one of the water slides. All of the rides for the children were free.

Centennial Clock
Tuesday, 08 January 2008
By Gayleen Draper,  News Reporter  -  In 1907, at the time of Oklahoma’s statehood, beautiful clocks graced the public areas of cities and towns across Oklahoma. One hundred years later, a new beautiful clock graces the courtyard of the LeFlore County Courthouse.Workers installed the new Oklahoma Centennial Street Clock on Friday.  According to County Commissioner Lance Smith, the county purchased the new centennial clock from the Centennial Program offered by the state.  The centerpiece of the courthouse square is a large, four-faced 16 ft., 7 in. tall attractive green clock ordered from the Verdin Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.  The clock is listed as ideal for Main Street associations, municipal governments, neighborhood associations, civic groups, businesses and other entities, Oklahoma Centennial Street Clocks are fully modernized versions of vintage clocks and are virtually maintenance-free. The county has already paid half of the cost of the clock, $41,373, and will pay off the remainder now that the clock has been installed.Smith stated, "I'm happy the county was able to get one of the clocks. It is something LeFlore County can be proud of and it makes the courthouse look nice."
