They came to town by the hundreds! People from all around LeFlore County made the trip to downtown Poteau for the Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Celebration. There were rides, foods, face painting and water slides. The day ended with the giant fireworks display at dusk. Children of all ages enjoyed the day. Above, Killion Barnes is getting a little shut-eye on B.J. Barnes’ shoulder after having enjoyed the full day to get ready for the fireworks.

By David Deaton, News Reporter  -  The Pansy Kidd Middle School Student Council was recognized by the Poteau School Board Monday evening for being elected as President  School for the Oklahoma Association of Middle and Junior High School Student Councils.Co-sponsors Nancy Ellis and Susan Manlove informed the board that this is a great honor for the area.Being elected as the President School, PKMS Student Council will have the responsibility of planning and hosting the Leadership Conference in November 2008. Approximately 900 middle school students are expected to attend the conference.This is the first time this conference has been held in this part of the state.
