By David Deaton, News Reporter - Roof maintenance will be done a littler earlier than expected on one of the buildings at Poteau Primary School."We thought it was someone working on the roof at first, but later discovered debris from the roof along the front of the kindergarten building. It was later discovered that the wind had blown a portion of the roof off," said Phyliss Dickinson, Assistant Principal at Poteau Primary School."All the children are safe and no one was hurt from the incident. The safety of our children is the most important thing," added Dickinson. The debris that fell from the roof went toward the front entrance of the building so all children who had classes in the kindergarten building were re-routed to be picked up at the back entrance. John Spencer Assistant Superintendent for Poteau Schools said, "What actually blew off was a spray-on adhesive that has been used to repair and patch the roof."The board had already voted at the March meeting to re-roof that building after Memorial Day. Spencer stated, "We are not sure if we will go ahead and replace the roof now or just repair it and wait until the orginal replacement date."The board had accepted a bid from Crampton Construction of Fort Smith to strip off the old roof and put on a new one at the Primary School. The new roof will be paid for with existing bond issue money. |
