CASC presents A Tennessee Williams masterpiece
Thursday, 10 April 2008
ImageA Tennessee Williams masterpiece will be brought to the stage this weekend by the Carl Albert State College theatre department. Students will present “The Glass Menagerie” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Monday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. All performances will be held in the Hamilton Auditorium on CASC’s Poteau campus. Admission is free for CASC students with a CASC ID, $3 for children and $5 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the box office before the show. “The Glass Menagerie” is directed by CASC faculty Bill Day and Shirley Harrod-Yandell. It stars Kim Sparks, Dalton Sims, Juanita James and Jason Coleman. The play was first staged in Chicago in 1944 and has enjoyed a Broadway revival six times. “The Glass Menagerie” was Tennessee Williams’ first successful production and is considered his most autobiographical. The play tells the story of Tom, a young factory worker and poet who dreams of escaping his ordinary life, which is spent caring for his overbearing mother and disabled sister. Tom drowns out his mother by escaping to the movies and drinking. Laura, his sister, escapes in a different way, becoming increasingly absorbed into her collection of perfect glass figurines. Above, Dalton Sims, Kim Sparks and Juanita James rehearse a scene from The Glass Menagerie.
