Skills exercise
Wednesday, 30 April 2008
By Gayleen Draper, News Reporter  -  Students from the Introduction to Emergency Medical Services Class at Kiamichi Technology Center Poteau Campus Health Careers program took part in a skills exercise at the Emergency Medical Services of LeFlore County office on Monday. The students are under the instruction of Donella Hawley, RN. She worked in conjunction with EMS-LC Director Bob Hawley during the exercise. The students, Amber Yandell, Tiffany Mc-Kinney, Ashleigh Mc-Clendon and Tara Blaylock, were assisted in the assessment and removal of a victim (Yandell)  from the "accident" by seasoned EMTs Stephanie Lickly, Amber Turner and Jill Barrs, who arrived on scene to lend a helping hand and give guidance when needed. During the exercise the students were to make sure the victim was awake and able to answer questions concerning the accident.Though assistance was there if needed, the students capably handled the situation.  The victim was successfully removed from the vehicle and "prepared for transport" to the hospital on a back board.  The successful exercise is required to pass the skills portion of the class.
