Drivers on along Poteau's main thoroughfare were delayed Wednesday during their morning cummute when several emergency services personnel responded to this two-vehicle accident at the corner of North Broadway and Wilson. Police, fire and EMS responded at approximately 9:45 a.m. after the red PT Cruiser (in the foreground) allegedly ran through the red light and sideswiped the Honda Accord. The Hurst Tool (Jaws of Life) was used to extricate the driver of the Honda. The driver was then transported to Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center for treatment.

Welding camp
Thursday, 26 June 2008
By David Deaton, News Reporter
Some area students have been learning about one hot job – welding.
Kiamichi Technology Center has been conducting a welding camp this week at the Poteau campus.  Twelve middle school-aged students from across the county have been introduced to the welding profession and have been learning about the manufacturing industry.  The camp is funded through the Fabrication Manufacturers’ Association of America. They provide the tools and resources needed for the camp.  Solid Works, a leader in 3D CAD technology, provided the computer software for the students to use to design a drawing, take it to a plasma table, cut out the design and then weld the design together.
“This week the students are also going to get to tour manufacturing companies, make yard ornaments and learn about the manufacturing business,” said Chad Hull, Public and Community Relations Director for KTC. “But most of all they get to learn something that will stay with them forever and possibly benefit them later.”
The camp will conclude Friday.
