By David Deaton, News Reporter Some area students have been learning about one hot job – welding. Kiamichi Technology Center has been conducting a welding camp this week at the Poteau campus. Twelve middle school-aged students from across the county have been introduced to the welding profession and have been learning about the manufacturing industry. The camp is funded through the Fabrication Manufacturers’ Association of America. They provide the tools and resources needed for the camp. Solid Works, a leader in 3D CAD technology, provided the computer software for the students to use to design a drawing, take it to a plasma table, cut out the design and then weld the design together. “This week the students are also going to get to tour manufacturing companies, make yard ornaments and learn about the manufacturing business,” said Chad Hull, Public and Community Relations Director for KTC. “But most of all they get to learn something that will stay with them forever and possibly benefit them later.” The camp will conclude Friday.
