Matt Johnson, Carl Albert State College Viking second baseman, has been named to the second team NJCAA All-American Team.
CASC Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Bowen said Johnson helped lead the Vikings to their highest season win total since 2001, with a final record of 37-21.
Johnson led the Vikings' offense in batting average at .417, scored 48 runs, walked 30 times, and had 70 hits — with 17 of those doubles and 13 home runs. He finished the season with 51 runs batted in.
Johnson was also named to the First Team All-Region II Team, and was the recipient of the All-Region II Gold Glove Award. Johnson, who is from Asher, graduated from Carl Albert State College with a HPER degree and has signed a letter of intent to play baseball as he furthers his education at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
“Matt is one of the better hitters I've had in my tenure here as head coach,” CASC Coach Mark Pollard said. “He was a force with the bat all season, and it is great to see him get the opportunity to further his education and baseball career at UCO. We wish him continued success.”
“Matt did a great job for us, and his success as a player helped our entire team be successful,” Bowen said. “We appreciate what he did to help us have a strong season, and we certainly wish him the best.”
