By the second inning of Thursday afternoon's second elimination game of the 2011 OK Kids Midget State Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex, it looked pretty much as if the Weatherford Red was going to dominate the Shawnee Muck Dogs, who were run ruled in Wednesday night's late game against the Durant Rangers.
But by the time the game actually ended, Weatherford was breathing a big sigh of relief as a three-run, two-inning rally in the final innings by Shawnee fell short, and the Red escaped 6-5 victors to live to play at state at least for tonight.
Weatherford (42-7) will play the Tushka Tigers at 6 p.m. tonight in the loser's-bracket semifinal.
The Weatherford-Tushka winner will face the loser of Thursday night's late game between Durant and Holdenville at 8 p.m. tonight for the right to play the Durant-Holdenville winner for the state title at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Dogs (37-16) saw their season come to an end with the loss.
