HOWE — The Howe Lions got the 2013 portion of their season off on the right paw as they corralled the Arkoma Mustangs 70-37 Friday night at the Howe High School gym.
The Lions jumped out to a 28-7 lead after a period and never looked back.
Cameron 63, Bokoshe 27: Friday night in Bokoshe, the Yellowjackets, who led 10-5 after one period, broke the game open by outscoring the Tigers 28-8 in the second quarter to take a 38-13 halftime lead.
Panama 55, McCurtain 53: Friday night in Panama, the Razorbacks, who trailed 44-40 late in the third quarter, used a game-closing 15-8 run to snatch the come-from-behind win. Naconna Steelman's free throw with about a minute left to play gave the Hogs a 52-51 lead, an advantage the maintained the rest of the way.
Heavener 67, Stigler 57: Friday night in Heavener, the Wolves trailed 19-18 after a period, but they outscored the Panthers 49-38 the rest of the way to get the comeback victory.
Talihina 37, Wilburton 33: Friday night in Wilburton, despite the Golden Tigers hitting only 21 percent from the field and committing 22 turnovers, they still found a way to get the road win.
With the game tied at 6-6 after a period, the Golden Tigers led 14-12 at halftime and 26-25 after three periods.
Wister 64, Keota 39: Friday night in Keota, the Wildcats rebounded from Thursday night's road loss to Arkoma in a big way. The ’Cats, trailing 12-10 after one period, outscored the Lions 20-9 in the second quarter to take a 30-21 lead at halftime. Then, they outscored the Lions 34-18 in the second half to win going away.
Broken Bow 59, Talihina 56: Saturday night in Broken Bow, the Golden Tigers hit 67 percent from the field in the first half, but led a 51-44 lead after three periods slip away.
The Savages outscored the Golden Tigers 14-5 in the final period, thanks to a quarter-opening 8-0 run, to get the come-from-behind win.
