The good news is the Poteau Pirates and the Talihina Golden Tigers didn't lose this weekend on the gridiron. Of course, they didn't win, either.
The big winner this weekend in the world of high school football was Mother Nature. The wintry weather statewide made the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association cancel all the high school playoffs this weekend and essentially push the games to a week later — thus the Class 3A, 2A and A state title games will take place the weekend before Christmas.
The Pirates will meet No. 1 Anadarko at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Oklahoma State University's Boone Pickens Stadium in the Class 4A state title game. However, fans will need to be aware of something. That day is also OSU's fall semester graduation ceremony next door at Gallagher-Iba Arena. So, parking is going to be rather hard to come by. In fact, I heard that title game fans are urged to park downtown and take the shuttle to Boone Pickens Stadium to help the potential parking dilemma.
The Golden Tigers will meet No. 1 Ringling at 7 p.m. Friday — and no, I'm no going to say what date that is — at Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Paul Laird Field in Durant in the Class A state semifinals, with the winner playing the Apache-Hollis semifinal winner the following weekend at OSU for the state title.
