Werner era begins with a Poteau road victory over Durant Lions

DURANT — It was one heck of a pregame pep talk by Poteau's new football coach, Greg Werner.
“I want you to go out and dominate this game be very physical,” Werner told the Pirates before they took the field against the Durant Lions at Paul Laird Field on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. “Let people know that the Poteau Pirates are back!”
After trailing by seven points at halftime, the Pirates came out and physically dominated the Lions and won the game 28-21.
