Whitesboro basketball teams open season Thursday night at Battiest; Bulldogs have new coach to begin 2012-13 campaign

October 31, 2012

The high school basketball season has arrived for the Whitesboro High School teams as they will hit the road to meet Battiest Thursday night. The girls game will tip off at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys contest at 8 p.m.
The Bulldogs will be guided by a new coach as Billy Karr comes over from Wilburton. He replaces the late Wayne Tucker, who was killed in an automobile accident at the end of last season near Muse.
Karr inherits a team which went 10-14 last season, but returns four starters from that squad. Three of them are seniors — Quinton Ludlow, Hunter Tidwell and Colton Sisemore. The fourth returning starter is sophomore Blake Blagg-Tidwell.
The Lady Bulldogs were 19-11 last season under Bryan Cartwright, who had previously coached the boys team. They return three starters from last season — Ashalee Nunley (10 points and six rebounds a game last season), Taylor Bowers (14 points and five rebounds) and Hope Sisemore (eight, eight).
Editor's note — As more teams begin their season AND coaches return their preseason questionnaires, more season preview stories will appear.
